Adult Ministries

has a thought-provoking lineup for the end of April through mid-May for Sunday Morning at Rev. Charlie's place at 8:30 am. Go to the backdoor of 21 West Lane. Coffee and donuts will be served at all events.

  • We will close out April on the 30th with a talk by Scarlett Lewis, mother of Jesse. Jesse went off to school on 12/14/12 and was one of 26 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. Scarlett will discuss how faith has sustained her and how she has channeled her energies into both a book on hope and forgiveness as well as into founding the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement to collaborate with professional educators to develop school-based educational programs to change our current culture of violence to one of safety, peace and love for one another. The movement's emphasis is on choosing to turn angry thoughts and actions into loving ones in all circumstances.
  • On May 7th, Yale Ph.D. candidate and Dante scholar Griffin Oleynick returns to FCC to conclude his discussion of Dante's Divine Comedy. We will focus on Dante's Paradise and discuss it from the perspective of Christian spirituality and to tease out some implications for Christian faith today.
  • On the 14th, Usman Aktar, Imam of Danbury Masjid, will join us to provide a primer on Islam and to discuss Ramadan, a month long observance to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Mohammad. Ramadan starts on May 26th and will be observed by 1.7 billion Muslims. Usman will enlighten us as to how worship is conducted, what foods can be consumed during this period of fasting, and how adherents conduct themselves socially during Ramadan. It is important to increase our understanding of the world's second largest religion so we hope you will join us.
  • We will close out the year on the 21st when Rabbi Jon Haddon joins us for a yet to be determined topic. We will resume Adult Ministries in our completed church in September.

Please join us for these fascinating discussions.
