Adult Ministries

Adult Ministries welcomes you for a thought-provoking lineup of classes in January in The Commons at 8:30 am. Coffee and breakfast snacks will be served at all events.

On January 7th, Imam Usman Akhtar will join us once again to examine more of Islam's five pillars, which are faith, fasting, charity, prayer and Hajj. We covered fasting during the Imam's last visit. This visit will place particular emphasis on prayer and beliefs in Islam. Muslims pray 5 times a day, and we will discuss when, how, why and where. We will also cover the six main articles of faith that Muslims believe in.

On the 14th, Rev. Karen Halac and FCC's Bridget Johnson will share their findings from "The Future of the Church" conference they recently attended. Hear about the current trends in faith and religion. What can be done to reverse declining church attendance? What are some of the new models for being the church? What are some new approaches to reach "unchurched" people? These answers and more will be shared.

On the 21st, Omer Bajwa, Director of Muslim Life at Yale, will join us once again. He was last here to participate in an interfaith dialog three sessions ago where he was extremely well-received. Omer will present how Jesus is portrayed in the Koran. Come hear and share a sensitive, yet honest look at how Muslims regard Jesus.

On the 28th, FCC's Stephen Mathias will present "Why go on a vacation with a purpose: world mission?" Steve will discuss his past 20 years of experience in world mission and explain what the value is of investing precious time and money in short term mission trips, and how they differ from any other vacation.

On February 4th, Father John Morrison will join us once again to examine C.S. Lewis, one of the most influential Christians of the 20th century. Father Morrison was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1982. Now retired, he was a professor of Literature and Theology at the Mercer School of Theology in Garden City. He has published more than a dozen articles on C.S. Lewis.
