PASTOR"S COLUMN

The church is taking a step in the right direction as we prepare again to welcome a full-time associate minister to the staff.

Some historical perspective: FCC became a multi-staff church early in the pastorate of Clayton Lund, who served 1956-1986. A number of associate ministers served during his three decades. The staff included associate ministers (as well as staff for youth and children’s ministry) during subsequent pastorates, until shortly before my arrival in the fall of 2008.

After more than three years of financial stability, it is now very gratifying to see the congregation ready to staff for future growth.

That growth will come as we welcome new families with children and youth. For this reason, the position description of our new associate minister focuses primarily in this area – children, youth, and family ministry.

Karen Halac has demonstrated enthusiasm, energy, love for children and youth, passion for the church’s ministry, organizational skill, pastoral sensitivity with persons of all ages, programmatic vision, and personal faith commitment to Christ during her work here as Family Ministry Coordinator.

Karen seems like a natural choice but the Search Committee followed the process with great integrity, meeting almost weekly since last summer. Their selection of Karen as the church’s candidate for the position was the result of deep deliberation, extensive discussion, and prayerful discernment.

Please join me in voicing your gratitude to Sheri Lussier and all the members of the Search Committee for their faithful work on our behalf. And make sure to be in church on Sunday, May 6!

Gratefully,
Charles Hambrick-Stowe
