Mission Overview
Back Bay Mission is a dynamic, 87-year-old nonprofit agency in Biloxi, Mississippi, that is “a community ministry of the United Church of Christ, serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the wider church community by faithful witness for social justice and compassionate service to the poor and marginalized.” Hurricane Katrina left Back Bay Mission temporarily incapacitated, but within a short time the Mission began receiving work teams from across the country to help the Mississippi Gulf Coast dig out and rebuild. Through an outpouring of support from UCC churches, individuals and organizations, the staff of 12 full-time employees and one part-time person are once again able to provide direct services to poor families while also working through advocacy and community organizing efforts to effect deeper change.
